December 29 2006, a Friday local wrestling show Richard who just turned 13 on the 28th was in the crowd. A mild mannered sweet kid it was shocking when a villainous undefeated wrestler came out and laid the open challenge out to the crowd , not really expecting any takers but Richard took his chance and accepted it.
He was mocked in the ring and the match was even made no DQ but Richard capitalized getting the upset with a low blow kick and a super kick he would later call The Rick Kick.
This was caught on tape and shared online making Richard a viral internet sensation.
Richard would be booked on shows but promoters wouldn’t pay him due to his age and they would put him in no dq matches with grizzled veterans .
Despite being a goody 2 shoes type of kid and super sweet he was not accepted in locker rooms viewed as just a viral internet fad and a boy in the man’s locker rooms , not being an athlete at all also did him no favors either .
Some times he would pull off an upset but usually he got the crap knocked out of him to everyone’s surprise though he had a shocking resiliency.
He would kick out of offense that would put most away .
He continued training and also began training in martial arts . He created an in ring style that made up for his short comings in fear of heights and lack of athletic acumen with an innovative style that focuses on pressure points, small joint manipulation and basic martial arts .
He has improved a lot in his cardio which is very important due to him being a portly.
I hard in his own words on his start and experience :
The whole accidental debut stuff I have no idea how to describe how it happened I feel like my body moved independently from my mind, one moment watching the show and next
I was just in the ring with my hand raised .
As a smart mark type of fan back then I understood why wrestlers didn’t like me and why I was given so much shit but that did not make it any easier . I developed a chip on my shoulder and became arrogant but always out of desire to be beloved and accepted by fans and my peers.
5 years in I felt I was so improved I was unstoppable , I attempted a suicide dive which I botched terribly and I injured my neck .
It was a short recovery time but I was so traumatized I took time off working as a commentator , I was doing improv at the time so I created this gimmick of an old school jewish comic just hamming it up .
I returned in 1 year and 6 months later in 2013.
I’ve really just been trying to improve each year and keep finding places fo hone my craft . I know one day everyone will see what I’ve been doing and give me the appreciation I deserve. I’ve been working for 14 years at this, everyone thought I would be gone in 4 weeks .
You can’t break me .
